Tourismus - Unsere Stadt kennenlernen mit der Wassermaid. Im Sommer 2023 wurde der neue "Schöninger Erlebnispfad" in Betrieb genommen. Wegweiserin ist dabei unser Wahrzeichen, die Wassermaid. Ob Altsteinzeit, Mittelalter oder Industrialisierung - sie schlüpft in das Gewand der Zeit und berichtet von den größten Ereignissen. Die wunderbaren Figuren stammen aus der Feder von Dieter Kley.

Acht Stationen mit großen Infotafeln hat der 2,5 Kilometer lange Pfad vom Burgplatz bis raus zum Forschungsmuseum, der in die bewegte Geschichte der ältesten Stadt im Braunschweiger Land einführt. Er funktioniert in beide Richtungen, kann also sowohl in der Innenstadt als auch am Museum gestartet werden. Die Infotafeln wurden ebenfalls von Dieter Kley gestaltet.

Mittelpunkt ist die Station an der Gabelsberger Straße. Hier entstand im Rahmen der Fahrbahn- und Gehwegsanierung in den vergangenen Monaten ein Areal, das zum Verweilen einlädt. Dafür hat der Verkehrsverein Schöningen einen Holzpavillon gestiftet.

Unterwegs gibt es Erlebniselemente wie eine Fotowand, Memory oder ein Hüpfspiel. Für Kinder gibt es eine Schnipseljagd mit Rätselflyer und an jedem Standort eine Frage zu beantworten. Sind alle vermerkt, gibt es bei Vorlage in der Tourist-Information oder im Forschungsmuseum nicht nur den Wassermaid-Stempel, sondern auch den exklusiven Wassermaid-Pin als Prämie.

Neben dem Info- und Rätselflyer können Sie auch unsere App „Schöninger Entdeckerrunde“ nutzen. Hier trifft man wieder auf die Wassermaid, gesprochen von Laura Matern, die englische Übersetzung kommt von Erik Kempernolte. Er leiht auch den englischen Audiodateien seine Stimme.

Wie funktioniert das? Nach dem Start der App sind die Stationen nach Entfernung vom aktuellen Standort sortiert. Kommt man in die Nähe eines Punktes, erscheint ein Hinweis und ein Signalton ertönt. Nun kann man den Audio-Guide nutzen und auf akustische Zeitreise gehen.

Die zweisprachige App ermöglicht auch ausländischen BesucherInnen, Schöningen zu entdecken und sich zu informieren. Wenn beim Smartphone als Systemsprache nicht Deutsch eingestellt ist, startet die App automatisch in der englischen Version. Nach der Installation ist die App "offline" nutzbar, das heißt, eine Internetverbindung ist nun nicht mehr erforderlich.

Tourists can discover the city with the help of the Water Maiden. In summer 2023, the new “Schöningen Adventure Trail” opened. The Water Maiden, dressed in period attire, guides visitors through key moments in the town’s history, from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages and the Industrial Revolution. These charming figures were created by Dieter Kley.

The 2.5-kilometre trail runs from Burgplatz to the Research Museum, featuring eight stations with large information boards introducing the rich history of the oldest city in the Braunschweig region. The trail can be accessed from either the city centre or the museum and can be explored in both directions. Kley also designed the information boards.

A key highlight is the station at Gabelsberger Straße, where a new seating area has been created during recent road and pavement renovations. The Schöningen Tourism Association contributed a wooden pavilion for visitors to rest and enjoy the view.

Along the trail, there are interactive elements such as a photo wall, a memory game, and a hopping game. Children can participate in a scavenger hunt using a puzzle flyer, answering questions at each station. Once all answers are recorded, they can present their flyer at the Tourist Information Centre or the Research Museum to receive a Water Maiden stamp and an exclusive Water Maiden pin.

The “Schöninger Discovery Tour” app complements the trail, offering audio guidance in both German and English. Visitors encounter the Water Maiden again, voiced by Laura Matern (German) and Erik Kempernolte (English). The app automatically adjusts to the smartphone’s language and can be used offline.
