Tourismus - Unsere Stadt kennenlernen mit der Wassermaid. Im Sommer 2023 wurde der neue "Schöninger Erlebnispfad" in Betrieb genommen. Wegweiserin ist dabei unser Wahrzeichen, die Wassermaid. Ob Altsteinzeit, Mittelalter oder Industrialisierung - sie schlüpft in das Gewand der Zeit und berichtet von den größten Ereignissen. Die wunderbaren Figuren stammen aus der Feder von Dieter Kley.

Acht Stationen mit großen Infotafeln hat der 2,5 Kilometer lange Pfad vom Burgplatz bis raus zum Forschungsmuseum, der in die bewegte Geschichte der ältesten Stadt im Braunschweiger Land einführt. Er funktioniert in beide Richtungen, kann also sowohl in der Innenstadt als auch am Museum gestartet werden. Die Infotafeln wurden ebenfalls von Dieter Kley gestaltet.

Mittelpunkt ist die Station an der Gabelsberger Straße. Hier entstand im Rahmen der Fahrbahn- und Gehwegsanierung in den vergangenen Monaten ein Areal, das zum Verweilen einlädt. Dafür hat der Verkehrsverein Schöningen einen Holzpavillon gestiftet.

Unterwegs gibt es Erlebniselemente wie eine Fotowand, Memory oder ein Hüpfspiel. Für Kinder gibt es eine Schnipseljagd mit Rätselflyer und an jedem Standort eine Frage zu beantworten. Sind alle vermerkt, gibt es bei Vorlage in der Tourist-Information oder im Forschungsmuseum nicht nur den Wassermaid-Stempel, sondern auch den exklusiven Wassermaid-Pin als Prämie.

Neben dem Info- und Rätselflyer können Sie auch unsere App „Schöninger Entdeckerrunde“ nutzen. Hier trifft man wieder auf die Wassermaid, gesprochen von Laura Matern, die englische Übersetzung kommt von Erik Kempernolte. Er leiht auch den englischen Audiodateien seine Stimme.

Wie funktioniert das? Nach dem Start der App sind die Stationen nach Entfernung vom aktuellen Standort sortiert. Kommt man in die Nähe eines Punktes, erscheint ein Hinweis und ein Signalton ertönt. Nun kann man den Audio-Guide nutzen und auf akustische Zeitreise gehen.

Die zweisprachige App ermöglicht auch ausländischen BesucherInnen, Schöningen zu entdecken und sich zu informieren. Wenn beim Smartphone als Systemsprache nicht Deutsch eingestellt ist, startet die App automatisch in der englischen Version. Nach der Installation ist die App "offline" nutzbar, das heißt, eine Internetverbindung ist nun nicht mehr erforderlich.

Tourism - Get to know our city with the Water Maiden. In the summer of 2023, the new "Schöningen Adventure Trail" was inaugurated. Our landmark, the Water Maiden, serves as the guide. Whether it's the Stone Age, Middle Ages, or Industrialization, she dons the attire of the time and recounts the major events. The wonderful figures were created by Dieter Kley.

The 2.5-kilometer-long trail, starting from Burgplatz and leading to the Research Museum, features eight stations with large information boards, providing an introduction to the eventful history of the oldest city in the Braunschweig region. The trail works in both directions, so it can be started in either the city center or at the museum. The information boards were also designed by Dieter Kley.

The focal point is the station at Gabelsberger Straße. As part of the road and sidewalk renovations in recent months, an area has been created here that invites visitors to linger. The Schöningen Tourism Association has donated a wooden pavilion for this purpose.

Along the way, there are interactive elements such as a photo wall, memory game, or a hopping game. For children, there is a scavenger hunt with a puzzle flyer, and at each location, they have to answer a question. Once all the answers are recorded, visitors can present them at the Tourist Information or the Research Museum to receive not only the Water Maiden stamp but also an exclusive Water Maiden pin as a prize.

In addition to the information and puzzle flyer, you can also use our "Schöninger Discovery Tour" app. Here, you will meet the Water Maiden again, voiced by Laura Matern, with English translation provided by Erik Kempernolte. Erik also lends his voice to the English audio files.

How does it work? After starting the app, the stations are sorted by distance from the current location. When you approach a point, a notification will appear, accompanied by a signal tone. Now you can use the audio guide and embark on an auditory journey through time.

The bilingual app also allows foreign visitors to explore and gather information about Schöningen. If the system language on your smartphone is not set to German, the app will automatically start in English. After installation, the app can be used "offline," meaning an internet connection is no longer required.
