Sich auf eine Bank setzen und ausruhen, bis zu einer Stunde kostenfrei im Internet surfen und dabei das Handy aufladen? Das ist am Zentralen Omnibusbahnhof möglich dank der Regionalen EnergieAgentur e.V. (REA) und der Avacon. Photovoltaik-Module in der Sitzfläche der so genannten SmartBench machen das Aufladen mobiler Endgeräte kontaktlos oder per USB möglich. Zudem wird mit der Sitzbank freies WLAN im Bereich des Omnibusbahnhofs bereitgestellt. Möglich wird dies auch durch die finanzielle Unterstützung der Schöninger Werbegemeinschaft
Die technische Umsetzung wurde im Rahmen der interkommunalen Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Stadt Helmstedt und der Stadt Schöningen realisiert. Das System bietet abhängig von der Nutzerzahl max. 100 MBit/s im Download- und 20 bis 40 MBit/s im Upload.
Auch Touristen können den Hotspot nutzen, um sich über das vielfältige Kultur- und Freizeitangebot in der Stadt der Speere zu informieren.

Relax on a bench, surf the internet for up to an hour free of charge, and charge your phone at the same time! This is now possible at the Central Bus Station thanks to the Regional Energy Agency (REA) and Avacon.
The SmartBench is equipped with photovoltaic modules in the seat, allowing mobile devices to be charged contactlessly or via USB. It also provides free Wi-Fi in the bus station area. This project is supported financially by the Schöningen Advertising Association.
The technical implementation is part of the intermunicipal cooperation between the cities of Helmstedt and Schöningen. Depending on the number of users, the system provides up to 100 Mbps download and 20–40 Mbps upload.
Tourists can also use the hotspot to explore the diverse cultural and leisure activities in the City of Spears.
